Recently, I had the honor of attending a baby shower for fellow blogger, Elba Valverde of Living Colorful. I’m super sentimental so I was overjoyed and terrified for her at the same time. Baby showers always bring back the memory of that day! I suppose whether you are a new mom or becoming a mother for the fifth time, it’s still just as exciting and scary as the first. At least, that is true for me. I have five kids, but I never had a baby shower. If I did, I probably wouldn’t have gone through that traumatizing experience when Antonio was an infant.
You’re killing him! STOP! Don’t touch him! You are K I L L I N G him! Leave him alone! Don’t touch him. Help him. Please, help him! OMG!
Those were the piercing screams of my husband when Antonio was just a few months old on the day I learned one of my most important lessons about motherhood. I had just changed Antonio’s diaper and noticed he was starting to get a rash. A few hours later when it was time for another diaper change, time stood still. Antonio’s skin was cracked, bleeding, and he was screaming so hard and loud that his entire body was shaking. I couldn’t console him. My husband started screaming like a girl. Really, he screamed in such a high pitch voice, I didn’t even realize it was him at first. He was crying through his screaming at me. I was crying. I knew I had to clean Antonio but each time I touched him, Antonio and daddy screamed louder! Next thing I knew, daddy was on the phone with my mother-in-law. I can’t believe she actually stopped at any red lights because she was at my door in minutes. It makes sense. I mean, all she knew is that I was killing Antonio. She burst through the door like a warrior grandma, only to find that Antonio was suffering a really bad diaper rash. Yep, that’s all. She tried to calm daddy down and started to clean Antonio’s little booty. She told me how important it was to get the area clean, even though it was hurting Antonio. Daddy started screaming at her. She just laughed and continued to save the day. When all was said and done, she looked me straight in the eyes, and told me never to buy those cheap diapers again! I learned, and never forgot, that all diapers and wipes are not created equally!
You can imagine my relief when I saw Elba’s table full of Huggies® Little Snugglers Diapers!
Every mom deserves a baby shower. As a new mom, the baby shower is is often the first event a woman attends in her new role as mommy. It’s a time for celebrating, sharing stories, ideas, fears, and hopes, with friends and family. I was so excited to be a part of the #AmigasHuggies event and to meet Elba who was absolutely glowing! It was so nice to see her caught up in the fun things like presents, cute little tiny baby outfits, baby room planning, delicious cake, and rocking her belly bump in a fabulous dress! I’ll never have a Baby Shower now, so I’m especially happy when my friends do. Inevitably, the talk of diapers and wipes comes up at a baby shower. The importance of protecting baby’s skin, keeping it clean, and just how many diapers and wipes a mom really goes through.
