Last week I went to a local Taqueria with my husband. It’s rare when we get to eat out together, just the two of us! I was feeling a little overwhelmed though. I was trying to enjoy our time together, but I kept thinking about the big goals I have for this year and pondering how to keep up with it all. I just wasn’t quite feeling myself. My husband, who never seems to notice (or at least hates to admit) when life is wearing me down, noticed that my spirit was way below my normally energized self. He ordered me a large fresh squeezed orange juice! I’ve been eating more fresh fruit lately, but that orange juice had so much concentrated goodness, it really perked me up; for a few hours. Overall health is one of my number one focuses this year. I don’t mean weight loss, eating better, sleeping better, or any one specific thing. I’m talking about overall health, as in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health! I need something that provides around-the-clock immune system support! I take a lot of vitamins and supplements. The problem is, it becomes a chore, just one more thing I have to remember to do, and none of the supplements I’ve been taking are really in support of my immune system.
I’m usually pretty good at meeting and exceeding my goals each year. There are a few things I do that help! I make sure to simplify my goals. For example, I didn’t make a goal to cut down on everything with sugar. I love my treats and enjoying a baked creation with the kids. Still, I need to consider my sugar intake. So, my goal is to significantly reduce my sugar intake in drinks! I’ll be opting for fresh squeezed juice instead of sugar-added bottled juice, water instead of soda, and dark coffee with cream, instead of coffee with an embarrassing amount of sugar. I can do that. I can exceed that! Of course, all these small goals are just a part of that big picture I was telling you about!
Right before Thanksgiving, I started writing down one thing per day I’m grateful for. This was just the support I needed for my emotional and spiritual health! I never want to forget how blessed I am, especially on those more difficult days. Just one little word per day keeps me grounded and aware of how lucky I remain. That’s really the important things about change; keeping it going!

I have to keep going and I need my supplements to keep up with me! I will exceed my goals this year and I have just the motivation to do it! The other day, it wasn’t just my husband who noticed I was feeling down. Pedro noticed, too. He kept telling me that the following day was going to be great and he knew I’d be feeling very special. For the rest of the day, he kept reminding that tomorrow would be a better day and I’d know just how special I am.
Today, he presented me with this letter that made me cry in front of a house full of people. I don’t have the words to express how special this letter was. Pedro just turned eleven-years-old this month. He is grandfather-wise!
Pedro always says I’m his hero. He tells me, his friends, and his teacher. He says it in English and in Spanish. He speaks it. He writes it. He sings it. I especially cherish all of Pedro’s letters. Want to see one ? Check out one of Pedro’s entire letters, HERE!
