For any parent who has, will, or might face bringing home a new sibling, this is the must-have story for your child(ren).
Oh Brother! turns the concept of there always being two-sides-to-every-story into a an engaging and delightful journey that not only allows a child to see the delightfully illustrated other-side, right before their eyes, but actually makes them want to hear and listen to the other-side of the story. The structure is brilliant!
The story is written as two stories within one enjoyable-read book, with both Nico and Tugger’s views presented as individual tales. The language is simple enough for a toddler to understand. At the same time, it is thought-provoking enough to stimulate real dialogue and insight between a parent and their school-aged child.
When I read this book for the first time, I smiled the whole time. I can honestly say I wish I would have had it before the birth of my triplets! It would have been a great story for one of their older brothers, who was only six at the time.
No matter how much we try to prepare a child for the homecoming of a sibling, there will be ups and downs. This book should be on the registry for all pregnant moms! Even when you are not bringing home a new sibling, even a new addition in the extended family can be a difficult transition for children.
This book is short enough to read as a nightly bed-time story and long enough to be effective in presenting Nico and Tugger’s tale!
Loved it. You can order your own copy of the book, here.
